In September 2006, I applied to be a volunteer for the Big Buddy program. I was asked to give photo copies of personal identification with my application. When I found out how these were being stored, I felt this was a possible identity theft problem and asked that my papers be destroyed. The director of the program denied my request.

I contacted the State Attorney General's office. They verified my concern and sent a letter requesting the removal of my file. This was also denied by the director. My next effort was to ask a board member for help, but his efforts have also been unsuccessful.

My concern is that others interested in volunteering for the Big Buddy program may not be aware of this potential for identity theft.
