REGIONAL — Nobles County added 12 new positive COVID-19 cases during the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Friday, bringing the total number of local cases to 1,444 since testing began, according to the Minnesota Department of Health’s status update released this morning.
The number of positive COVID-19 cases in area counties currently stands at 62 in Cottonwood County (up one from the prior day), 38 in Jackson County (up one), 35 in Murray County (up one), 20 in Rock County (no change) and 10 in Pipestone County (no change).
Congregate care facilities in the area that report exposure to COVID-19 include Good Samaritan Society homes in Windom, Jackson and Luverne; The Lodge at Mountain Lake; Golden Horizons and South Shore Care Center in Worthington; Parkview Manor in Ellsworth; and Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda.
Statewide, MDH reported 10 new deaths as of 4 p.m. Friday from the novel coronavirus, bringing the total now to 852. Among the dead are 697 individuals who had resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Currently, there are 568 patients hospitalized in the state, including 215 individuals in intensive care units.
Thus far, 19,845 Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19, with 847 new cases during the last 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. Friday. Of those who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus since testing began are 2,287 health care workers. Statewide, 13,485 individuals no longer need to be in isolation.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reported no new COVID-19 cases in the northwest Iowa counties of Osceola (30 positive cases with 24 recovered), Lyon (19 with 18 recovered) and Dickinson (eight with six recovered) as of Saturday morning.
Thus far, there have been 16,893 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iowa, with 9,260 of those now beyond the 10-day isolation period. There have been 445 deaths reported in Iowa.
Nationwide, there were 1,618,471 positive cases of COVID-19 and 96,875 deaths as of 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to information from Johns Hopkins University.
