REGIONAL — Nobles County recorded two new case of COVID-19 in the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the total number of positive cases in the county at 1,637 since testing began, according to Thursday morning’s status update by the Minnesota Department of Health.

Six Nobles County residents have died thus far from the novel coronavirus.

The number of positive cases in neighboring counties was 127 in Cottonwood County (one new case), 53 in Jackson County, 47 in Murray County, 28 in Rock County and 15 in Pipestone County.

Statewide, MDH reported nine new COVID-19 deaths as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, bringing the total now to 1,406, with another 35 individuals considered to be probable victims of the virus. Among the dead are 1,107 individuals who had resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Currently, there are 336 patients hospitalized in the state, including 162 individuals in intensive care units.

Thus far, 34,123 Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19, with 365 new cases during the last 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Of those who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus since testing began are 3,486 health care workers. Statewide, 29,854 individuals no longer need to be in isolation.

The Iowa Department of Public Health reported that Dickinson County currently has 229 positive COVID-19 cases (with 92 recovered), Osceola County 49 (45 recovered) and Lyon County 37 (33 recovered) as of Thursday. Dickinson County has two deaths from the novel coronavirus.

Thus far, there have been 27,096 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iowa, with 16,990 of those now deemed recovered. There have been 694 deaths reported in Iowa.

Nationwide, there were 2,398,491 positive cases of COVID-19 and 122,177 deaths as of 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to information from Johns Hopkins University.
