REGIONAL — Pipestone County recorded two additional deaths from COVID-19 in the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Friday, according to Saturday morning’s situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health. One individual was between the ages of 70 and 79, and the other between the ages of 90 and 99. No additional information is available.

Pipestone County had four new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing its cumulative total to 130 cases. A total of eight citizens in that county have now died from COVID-19.

Nobles County, meanwhile, reported seven new cases, bringing its cumulative total to 1,725. As of July 20, 1,690 of those individuals were beyond the 10-day isolation period. The county stands at six COVID-19 deaths.

Rock County added five new cases in Saturday morning's update and now has 60 total cases.

Additional southwest Minnesota case counts:

Cottonwood County: 158 positive cases (three new cases).

Jackson County: 64 positive cases (three new cases).

Murray County: 115 positive cases (five new cases); one death.

Area long-term care facilities currently dealing with exposures to COVID-19 are: Good Samaritan Society, Windom; Edgebrook Care Center, Edgerton; Good Samaritan Society of Pipestone; Ridge View Estates, Pipestone; and Jasper Sunrise Village.

Statewide, 50,291 positive cases of COVID-19 have been recorded, with 805 new cases in the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Friday. Of those who have tested positive, 43,625 individuals no longer need isolation. A total of 1,571 Minnesotans have died from the novel coronavirus thus far, with another 40 deemed probable victims of the virus.

Among the dead are 1,204 individuals who had resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Currently, 287 patients are hospitalized, including 115 individuals in intensive care units. Since testing began, 5,882 Minnesota health care workers have tested positive for COVID-19.

Iowa (according to Iowa Department of Public Health): 41,628 positive cases; 29,462 recovered; 826 deaths.

  • Dickinson County: 355 positive cases; 237 recovered; four deaths.

  • Osceola County: 74 positive cases; 52 recovered.

  • Lyon County: 87 positive cases; 69 recovered.

Nationwide (according to Johns Hopkins University): 4,128,304 positive cases; 1,261,624 recovered; 145,719 deaths.
