REGIONAL — Six additional Nobles County residents are the latest to test positive for COVID-19, according to this morning’s situation update from the Minnesota Department of Health.
Jackson County and Murray County each reported three new cases, Cottonwood County reported two new cases, and Pipestone and Rock counties each added one new case. The test results are from a 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Friday.
Minnesota’s cumulative number of confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 now stands at 88,721, with 80,407 beyond the 10-day isolation period. There were 924 new cases of the coronavirus reported in the 24-hour period, along with 13 deaths.
Statewide, 1,963 individuals have now died from COVID-19, with another 52 people believed to have died from the virus but were not tested. Among the dead are 1,422 residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities.
As of Friday afternoon, 241 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 statewide, with 134 individuals in intensive care units. Thus far, 9,515 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the novel coronavirus.
A local snapshot of the virus shows the following cumulative totals since testing began:
Nobles County: 1,926 positive cases; 1,886 beyond the 10-day isolation period as of Thursday; 16 deaths.
Cottonwood County: 216 positive cases.
Jackson County: 128 positive cases; one death.
Murray County: 152 positive cases; two deaths.
Pipestone County: 209 positive cases; nine deaths.
Rock County: 146 positive cases.
Congregate care facilities with current exposures to COVID-19 in this area include Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, Good Samaritan Society in Luverne, Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Lake, Good Samaritan Society in Windom, Lindenwood Assisted Living in Slayton, South Shore Care Center in Worthington and Valley View Assisted Living in Jackson.
The Iowa Department of Health reports 79,136 cases of COVID-19 in its state since testing began, with 57,237 individuals considered recovered. Thus far, 1,264 deaths are blamed on COVID-19 in the state.
In northwest Iowa:
Lyon County: 233 positive cases; 161 recovered; three deaths.
Osceola County: 122 positive cases; 92 recovered.
Dickinson County: 480 positive cases; 396 recovered; six deaths.
Nationwide, Johns Hopkins University reports a cumulative total of 6,730,653 positive cases of COVID-19 in the United States as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with 2,556,465 individuals deemed recovered. There have been 198,682 COVID-related deaths in the United States.
