ST. PAUL — Minnesota reported more than 11,828 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, Jan. 21, as positive test rates remained at an all-pandemic high for the state.
The seven-day rolling average positive test rate has stopped growing Jan. 10 after reaching a record high of 23.7% the day before, according to the most recently available data for that figure.
The positive test rate figure stalling could signal a peak in the current wave of infections — Twin Cities COVID-19 wastewater surveillance released this week by the Metropolitan Council showed the most viral content on Jan. 9 or 10.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 remained high in Friday's report. Of the 1,571 hospitalized in Minnesota, 241 were in an intensive care unit. The state health department reported 36 deaths Friday.
