REGIONAL — Cottonwood County recorded six new cases of COVID-19 during the 24-hour reporting period that culminated at 4 p.m. Friday, while Nobles and Pipestone counties added four new cases apiece. Murray County had one new case of the novel coronavirus; Jackson and Rock counties each had none..
During the one-day period, Minnesota reported 1,529 new cases of the virus. The state’s cumulative total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases now stands at 445,047 (positive and antigen tests), with 425,253 beyond the 10-day isolation period. Thus far, 34,723 Minnesota health care workers have contracted the virus.
There were 37 deaths recorded statewide during the 24-hour span. Among the dead were 15 individuals who resided in private residences, and 22 who were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. The death toll from the virus in Minnesota now stands at 5,887, including 3,756 residents of long-term care facilities.
Locally, current cumulative positive and probable COVID-19 test results, as well as MDH data from Thursday on recovery data (beyond 10-day isolation) and positivity rates among those tested, are:
Nobles County: 3,667 cases; 3,517 recoveries; 18.6% positivity rate; 46 deaths.
Cottonwood County: 1,265 cases; 1,214 recoveries; 10% positivity rate; 18 deaths.
Jackson County: 850 cases; 800 recoveries; 10.3% positivity rate; 10 deaths.
Murray County: 865 cases; 784 recoveries; 9.2% positivity rate; five deaths.
Pipestone County: 938 cases; 866 recoveries; 7.8% positivity rate; 23 deaths.
Rock County: 1,095 cases; 1,035 recoveries; 8.2% positivity rate; 12 deaths.
A walk-through COVID-19 saliva testing site is open at the Worthington Event Center, 1447 Prairie Drive. Appointments are encouraged at mncovidtestingappt.as.me/schedule.php, although walk-ins are welcome. Hours for free testing are noon to 7 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Mondays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
People are asked to stay home if sick or someone in their home is awaiting results of a COVID test. Hand washing with soap for at least 20 seconds, physical distancing, staying out of crowded/confined spaces with others, and wearing face masks in public places is still advised.

Congregate care facilities with COVID-19 exposures as of Friday included Colonial Manor, Lakefield; Good Samaritan Society homes in Mountain Lake, Pipestone and Windom; Lindenwood Assisted Living, Slayton; Maple Lawn and Maplewood Court, Fulda; Tuff Memorial Home, Hills; and the Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne.
The Iowa Department of Health reports 304,124 cases of COVID-19 since testing began, with 265,318 recoveries. Thus far, 4,321 deaths are blamed on COVID-19 in the state.
In northwest Iowa:
Dickinson County: 1,836 positive cases (three new cases); 1,634 recovered; 26 deaths. Long-term care facilities with current infections: Accura Healthcare of Spirit Lake, 43 cases, 38 recoveries.
Lyon County: 1,333 positive cases (two new cases); 1,178 recovered; 32 deaths. Rock Rapids Health Center reports 11 cases and nine recoveries.
Osceola County: 634 positive cases (no new cases); 596 recovered; nine deaths.
Johns Hopkins University reports a nationwide cumulative total of 23,545,529 positive cases of COVID-19 as of 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Thus far, 392,537 Americans have died from the virus.
