Nobles County records first death due to COVID-19

WORTHINGTON — Nobles County has recorded its first death from COVID-19. A 73-year-old male from Ellsworth — having the county’s first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus — died Monday. He was a resident of Parkview Manor.

On Wednesday, the Minnesota Department of Health’s updated numbers of positive cases of COVID-19 within the county increased to 126, up from 101 on Tuesday.

Positive cases in neighboring counties remained mostly steady, with now three cases in Jackson County. Cottonwood County remains at six, while there are three in Murray County, five in Rock County and two in Pipestone County. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported five COVID-19 cases in Lyon County, four in Osceola County and three in Dickinson County.

Across Minnesota, 179 people have died from the novel coronavirus as of 4 p.m. Tuesday, up from 160 on Monday. There were 240 patients hospitalized, including 107 individuals in the intensive care unit.

Thus far, 2,721 Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19. Of those, 1, 317 individuals no longer need to be in isolation.
