Pipestone County adds another six new cases of COVID-19

REGIONAL — Pipestone County continues to see a higher number of positive COVID-19 cases in the six-county area of far southwest Minnesota, with six new cases of the novel coronavirus reported in the last 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The county has reported five deaths thus far, all of whom were residents of the Good Samaritan Society of Pipestone, a long-term care facility home to 63 residents. Pipestone County has recorded 103 positive cases of COVID-19 since testing began.

Meanwhile, Nobles County had no new cases of the novel coronavirus reported in the last 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Wednesday. It has had 1,698 residents test positive since testing began. Nearly 1,670 of those are beyond the 10-day isolation period. The county has recorded six COVID-19 deaths.

Current statistics in neighboring counties are:

  • Cottonwood County: 146 positive cases (two new cases; 137 beyond the 10-day isolation period).

  • Jackson County: 60 positive cases (one new case; 56 beyond the 10-day isolation period).

  • Murray County: 86 positive cases (three new cases).

  • Rock County: 36 positive cases (one new case).

Statewide: 44,347 positive cases of COVID-19 (611 new cases in the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Wednesday); 38,290 individuals no longer needing isolation; 1,526 deaths (eight new deaths) with another 40 deemed probable victims of the virus.
Among the dead are 1,179 individuals who had resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Currently, 249 patients are hospitalized, including 103 individuals in intensive care units. Since testing began, 4,232 Minnesota health care workers have tested positive for COVID-19.

Iowa (according to Iowa Department of Public Health): 36,866 positive cases; 27,360 recovered; 777 deaths.

  • Dickinson County: 316 positive cases; 212 recovered; three deaths.

  • Osceola County: 70 positive cases; 50 recovered.

  • Lyon County: 65 positive cases; 46 recovered.

Nationwide (according to Johns Hopkins University): 3,499,771 positive cases; 1,075,882 recovered; 137,420 deaths.
