Jackson native Garvin hired as MSU-Mankato men's basketball assistant
MANKATO -- Jackson native Pat Garvin has been named as an interim assistant coach for the Minnesota State-Mankato men’s basketball team by Mavericks head coach Matt Margenthaler.
"I am excited to add Pat Garvin to our coaching staff," Margenthaler said in a press release. "He brings a great basketball mind and a willingness to grind in the office. I look forward to working side by side with Pat this year."
This is Garvin’s second stint with MSU-M after working as a volunteer assistant coach during the 2014-15 season. That season, the Mavericks went 24-8 and made the NCAA Tournament.
For the past two years, he has worked as an assistant at Benedictine University at Mesa in Mesa, Ariz. His duties as an assistant at Benedictine Mesa included recruiting, player development, fund raising, and game preparation. Last year, the Redhawks went 16-12 and won six of their final nine games.
Garvin was an assistant coach at his alma mater -- Bethany Lutheran College -- for one season in 2014.
