MARSHALL -- The host Marshall Tigers handed Luverne only its second setback of the season Monday in a 4-1 victory in the Big South Conference championship game.

Kaleb Welvaert hit a pair of doubles in a seven-hit attack for the Tigers. Starting pitcher Isaac Schmitt checked the Cardinals on two hits while walking three and striking out nine.

Colby Crabtree and Derek Lundgren had the Cardinals’ hits. Lundgren’s drove in Luverne’s only run in the top of the fourth inning.

Luverne is 17-2 on the season.

Ben Serie was the losing pitcher. He started and went three and two-thirds innings.

WESTBROOK -- Redwood Valley defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central in non conference play.

Trenton Halvorson pitched for the Chargers, he was credited with a loss, allowing six earned runs. Jonah Hansen went 2-for-4 with an RBI for WWG/RRC.

Adam Bommersbach and Kyle Lechner hit back to back 2 RBIs doubles in the third inning for the Cardinals. Lechner earned the victory on the mound for the Cardinals.

LUVERNE -- Second-ranked Luverne beath seventh-ranked Yellow Medicine East in Section 3A tournament play, 7-0. At No. 1 singles Matthew Jelken defeated Ean Clarke 6-3, 6-2. Graham Cunningham defeated Tyler Syring at No. 2 singles 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Colin Schoeneman defeated Jackson Torgerson at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0. Pierce Cunningham defeated Brandon Beyer at No. 4 singles 7-6, 6-2. Matt Sehr and Cole Stoltenberg defeated Austin Canatsey and Derrick Lien at No. 1 doubles 6-0, 6-0. Carson Ehde and Jordan Winter defeated Isaac Olevson and Clayton Wintz at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-1. Blake Framm and Griffen Jarchow defeated Gage Corner defeated Mason Rhode at No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-0.
