Jeffrey Dean

Jeffrey Dean Nickel, age 39, of Worthington, left us on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Jeff was born February 7, 1979 in Blue Earth, MN, to parents Jim and Deb. From there, in 1983, the Nickel family moved to Worthington where they purchased an Insurance Agency. Growing up in Worthington, Jeff was active in Hockey, Football, Golf, and FFA. Jeff also enjoyed anything related to the outdoors. Jeff graduated from Worthington High School in 1997. He attended Minnesota West, South Dakota State University and St. Cloud Technical College, graduating with a degree in Computer Programming.

In 2003, Jeff married his High School sweetheart, Latina Albersman. After marriage, they moved to North Branch, where Jeff worked as an agent, at American Family Insurance. Their daughter Jaden was born in 2004. In 2006, Jeff was offered a position with Nickel & Associates, with his father Jim and brother Trevor. After accepting the offer, the family moved to an acreage north of Worthington. In 2007, their son Spenser was born. In 2010, their daughter Tayler was born.

Jeff was actively involved in the following organizations: Worthington Hockey Association, Nobles County 4H, Worthington Chamber of Commerce, noon Kiwanis, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Jeff was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, coach, teammate, business colleague and friend. He loved nothing more than being around his family and friends. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, and spending time at the family cabin, on Bloody Lake.

Jeff was actively involved in Worthington Hockey Association and known as "Coach Nickel". He wasn't just a great leader, coach, mentor or role model to his own family, but to many of the youth hockey players for the last 10 plus years. A quote that Jeff lived by was "A coach will impact more young people in a year, than an average person does in a lifetime" -- Billy Graham

Jeff is survived by his wife Latina, children Jaden, Spenser and Tayler; father Jim; brother Trevor (Erin) and their children Colby, MaKenna and Peyton; brother Chad (Sarah) and their children Kya, Kory, Riley and Sadie; grandparents Arvid (Bud) Pauline Nickel, Diane Yahnke, and Delphine Burns; father-in-law Daryle (Linda) Albersman; sister-in-law Sophia Markus and her children Khloe and Hendrick; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and the many friends. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother Deb Nickel, grandfather Dean Yahnke, and mother-in-law Leslie Jensen.

Jeff's message to all of us would be, "It'll be just fine".

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Worthington Hockey Association, American Heart Association or Nobles County 4H.
