David Weets, age 76, Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on January 27 at his home.
David Jerry Weets was born October 24, 1944 to Harm and Bertha (Janssen) Weets in rural Sibley, IA. He attended Wilson #4 country school. In 1958 the family moved to Hewitt, MN where he attended the Bertha-Hewitt schools and later received his GED. He confessed his faith in his Lord and Savior at a young age. In 1962, he enlisted in the Marines and after discharge moved to Minneapolis. There he met Jeanette Russell whom he married in 1970. Two sons were born to this union. Though later divorced, they remained friends. The family moved to Butte MT where he worked for Berkley Co. in the copper mines. He loved the “Big Sky Country” and his Montana extended family of in-laws. The family moved back to Minneapolis where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad. He loved hunting, fishing and the great outdoors.
David is survived by his sons, Brian of Duluth and Brandon of Portland OR, Jeanette Weets, mother of his sons, Butte MT, brother, Dennis (Janice) Weets of Grandview WA and sisters, Fran (Warren) Mellema of Omaha NE, Betty Teerink of Worthington MN, Mary (Chuck) Wark of Aitkin MN, and Bonnie (Mark) Halleen of Waukesha WI, sister-in-laws Leola Weets of Worthington MN and Elaine Weets of Ocheyedan IA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harm and Bertha and brothers and sister in-laws, Fred Weets, Jim (Phillene) Weets, Bill Weets, Kenneth (Helen) Weets and brother-in-law Ron Teerink.
Due to Covid there will be no funeral at this time. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
