Eugene Iven Wachter

Eugene Iven Wachter, 75, passed away on April 30, 2021 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, MN. Gene was born on July 13, 1945 to Iven and Helen Wachter. He was born and raised on the farm in the Bigelow and Worthington area. He graduated from Worthington High School in 1963. After graduation, Gene attended Worthington Junior College. Gene fought in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. He was a proud member of the United States Army Reserves.

After his return from Vietnam, Gene and JoEllen Batcheller made a life in Alexandria where their son Andrew was born. Gene loved the lakes and loved to fish.

Gene later returned to Worthington. In 1998, he married Charlene and they had 23 beautiful years together. Gene was quality control at JBS for 20 years. He retired in 2011. After retirement he filled his spare time driving school bus. He loved his time with those kids. He enjoyed his many trips to Colorado to spend time with his son. Gene loved his grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his wife, Charlene, his son Andrew and two grandsons Tieg and Skogen of Colorado, his step daughter Kellie Dagel and grandchildren Caiden and Jaida Mason of Harrisburg, SD, his brother, Gerald (Joan) Wachter of Brandon, SD, sister, Lori Nienkerk of Worthington, MN, nieces and nephews, his step children along with his step grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother in law Craig Nienkerk.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Worthington. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Benson Funeral Home from 5- 7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held in the Worthington Cemetery. Pastor Jeanette McCormick will be officiating. Benson Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.
