Francis LeRoy (Tubby) Meier

Francis LeRoy (Tubby) Meier, age 87, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 while on a fishing trip in Canada, doing what he loved. He was born December 4, 1931 in Worthington, MN to parents John Carl Meier and Lucille Marie (Krick) Meier. He was a graduate of Worthington High School, class of 1950. He entered the United States Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in, both, the United States and England until 1956. Francis married Vonda Lee Brown on June 21, 1958 in Worthington. He was dedicated to his community, Worthington, being involved in many community organizations including the American Legion where he served as Commander and school safety patrol officer; Worthington Elks Lodge where he served as Exalted Ruler four times, MN South District Esquire and Deputy; a member of Worthington Veterans of Foreign Wars; as well as a member of Pheasants Forever. He spent most of his career as a distributor for Oak Grove Dairy as well as farming. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies, taking a couple of trips each year, as well as spending time with his friends at the Elks lodge. Tubby enjoyed working in, and maintaining, his fields and garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Vonda Lee; sons Kenton (Peggy), Worthington; Curtis, Philadelphia, PA; grandsons Kyle (Casie Weatherly), Fargo, ND; Shea (Megan), Bigelow; great grandchildren Dominic, Alexia and Gabriella, Bigelow. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Lucille, brother Melvin (TX), sisters Mary Bailer (IN) and Marlis McCarty (MO). Visitation to be held at Benson Funeral Home in Worthington from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 29th, services will be at Solid Rock Assembly Church with visitation at 10:00 am followed by funeral at 11:00 am on Friday, August 30th, with John Nau officiating and the musicians will be Brenda and Sarah DeSmith. Casketbearers will be Bruce Amundson, Rod Witzel, Paul Standafer, Tom Steffl, Randy Erwin, and Bill Reum. Honorary casketbearers will be Kyle Meier, Shea Meier, Dominic Meier, Alexia Jimenez, and Gabriella Jimenez. Burial, with Military Honors provided by the Worthington American Legion & VFW, will follow in the Worthington Memorial Gardens. Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
