Grace was born to Henry and Marie Luinenburg on November 18, 1924 in Ashton, IA and grew up on a farm by Brewster, MN. She attended country school through the eighth grade. She lived in California with her sister Clara and husband, Pete for a year and worked at a marmalade factory before returning to Minnesota. She married Kenneth Dykema on September 16, 1948 and they farmed by Reading, MN for 34 years. She was a lifetime member of the Nobles County Extension Club, The Golden Hour. She enjoyed many crafts, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and knitting throughout her life. For the last 37 years her passion was quilting. She loved to read and received many gifts from the Nobles County Library for the number of books she read. She moved to Worthington a year after the passing of her husband, Kenneth where she lived for 33 years. She volunteered for many years at the Crippled Children’s School and enjoyed meeting friends at Perkins for breakfast every morning. Grace moved to Leisure Living in Hartford, SD in 2016 where her daughter Sarah lives. She then moved to Grand Living in Sioux Falls, SD in June, 2019. Grace passed away July 18, 2020 at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.
She is lovingly survived by two sons and two daughters, Susan (Paul) Ramaker, Murrieta, CA, Lauren (Julie) Dykema, Rushmore, MN, Sarah (Rick) Cross, Hartford, SD and Andrew (Elizabeth) Dykema, St Cloud, MN; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Marvin Luinenburg. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Private family funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at the American Reformed Church in Worthington, MN. Burial will be in the Ransom Township Cemetery, rural Bigelow, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Ava’s House in Sioux Falls, SD.
