Harold Edwin Wass


Harold Edwin Wass was born October 10, 1913 in Bigelow Township, the son of August and Tillie (Johnson) Wass. He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school at District 80. Harold graduated from Worthington High School in 1930. Harold and Thelma Thompson were married December 12, 1939 and farmed in Bigelow Township until retiring and moving to Worthington in 1974. Harold and Thelma enjoyed life together, taking many trips and spending time with family and friends. Thelma passed away in 2012. Harold moved to Ecumen Meadows in 2017 and recently to Maple Lawn Care Center, Fulda, MN, where he passed away September 24, 2019. He was the cornerstone of his family and leaves a legacy of love, faith, wisdom, and respect.

Harold was a life-long member of Living Waters Covenant Church, Worthington. He loved the Lord and was active in many aspects of the church. He served on various community boards including District 518 Board of Education; Worthington Area YMCA Board of Directors; and the Elevator Board. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, Farm Bureau, and S.C.O.R.E.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Patricia (Dale) Frantz of Laurens, IA; Thomas Wass of Sioux Falls, SD; and Nancy (Kevin) Flynn of Worthington, MN; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many additional relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Thelma; great-granddaughter, Jasmine Greig; his parents; three brothers, Oscar, Louis (Eva), and Clarence (Mary) Wass; and three sisters, Mabel (Paul) Soderholm, Blanda (Virgil) Weitgenant, and Marian (Bill) Weitgenant.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Living Waters Covenant Church in Worthington, MN, with Pastor John Stewart officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Private family burial will be held in the Worthington Cemetery.
