Henrietta Marian Brinks

Henrietta Brinks was born on November 10, 1925 on the family farm near Sheldon, Iowa to Marinus and Marie Buysman Sterk. She grew up on the farm and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1943. On December 15, 1944 she and Gerrit Brinks were married in Sheldon. Following their marriage they farmed near Boyden, IA for a year before moving to a farm near Ellsworth, MN. In 1951 they moved to a farm in Skandia Twp. Murray County near Slayton, MN and in 1975 they semi-retired and moved to an acreage north of Slayton. In 1994 they retired and moved to Worthington, MN. Gerrit passed away on November 17, 1997. Henrietta remained in Worthington until 2015 when she moved to Clara City Care Center in Clara City, MN. She passed away there on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the age of 94. She was a member of the American Reformed Church in Worthington where she was active in the ladies group and Bible study. Henrietta enjoyed spending time with family, crocheting, reading, gardening, flowers, and watching the Minnesota Twins.

Survivors include her five children and their spouses: Gary and Helen Brinks of Slayton, MN; Marlene Bisbee of Keewatin, MN; Daryl and Julie Brinks of Pierz, MN; Doug and Leah Brinks of Slayton, MN; Junell and Vernon Petersen of Clara City, MN; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two siblings, Marion Sterk of Sheldon, IA, and Corleen Elgersma of Sanborn, IA; two sisters-in-law, Carol Sterk of Sheldon, IA and Georgia Holtrop of Sheldon, IA; and several nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerrit; five siblings, Harold Sterk, Cornelius Sterk, Lambert Sterk and his wife, Jeanette, Bill Sterk and his wife, Ruth, and Ann Vandermaten and her husband, William.

Funeral services will be at the  First Reformed Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Darrin Kimpson officiating. The pallbearers are her grandchildren. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. A mask will be required at the church. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.
