Jay Hamann

Jay R. Hamann, 85, of Burlington, and previously of Green Bay, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at his home.

He was born January 15, 1936 in Windom, Minnesota to Roy and Edna Finnern Hamann of Sioux Valley, MN. On July 6, 1963, he married Nancy Dodds in Danville, Iowa. A graduate of Sioux Valley High School, he also received Bachelor, Master, and PhD degrees from the University of Minnesota.

Jay worked at Collin’s Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Honeywell in Minneapolis, MN; Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana; University of Colorado in Boulder, CO; University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN; and Schreiber Foods in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was active in the United Methodist Church and was instrumental in the startup of the New Hope United Methodist Church in De Pere, Wisconsin. For 25 years, he was president of the Green Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Board.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of Burlington; son Byron of Princeton, New Jersey; sisters Judith Hintze of Windom, MN and Mary (Jim) Hansen of Edina, MN; brother John (Deloris) Hamann of Lake Park, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Leonard Hintze.

According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and a private graveside service will be held at Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville. Memorials in honor of Jay may be directed to Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice; Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County; and Friends of Geode State Park, New London, Iowa.
