JoAnn Kay Swanson

JoAnn Kay Swanson, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in her home.

JoAnn was born April 10, 1942 to Myrtle Loraine (Johnson) and Arthur H. Thompson in Tracy, MN.

She graduated from Luverne High School in 1960. Following graduation she was employed in the offices of A.R. Wood Mfg. Co., Luverne, MN. She married Glen A. Swanson on January 1, 1966 at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. The couple made their home on the Swanson family farm, rural Worthington where they farmed and raised their children.

JoAnn kept active in her church, Indian Lake Baptist, Worthington. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, a volunteer at the Bible Mission Thrift Store, delivered Meals on Wheels, and volunteered with R.S.V.P. JoAnn loved traveling, reading, cooking and baking with her granddaughter Jenna, and doing craft projects for home and church.

JoAnn is survived by her husband of 54 years Glen; her daughter Kristi of Round Lake, MN; her son Kevin (Dana White) of Worthington; her daughter Melanie Holmlund (Ross) of White Bear Lake, MN; grandchildren; Jenna Swanson, Ashley Veen, and Miles Veen; great grandchild; Odin Tiesler; 3 brothers and 2 sisters; Carolyn (Wayne) Holbert of Santee, SC, LeRoy Thompson of Sioux Falls, SD, Martin (Anita) Thompson of Chanhassen, MN, Howard (Elaine) Thompson of Ham Lake, MN, and Diane (Jim) Hickman of New Braunfels, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., at the Indian Lake Baptist Church rural Worthington, MN, with Pastor Jonathan Larson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Indian Lake Baptist Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN and also one hour prior to service at the church.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
