Mary Ruth Poller


Mary Ruth Poller was born on February 7, 1948, to Zane and Ruth (Wrase) Brunk of Brewster, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. She grew up on the family farm where she helped with the field work and taking care of the livestock.

Mary enjoyed 4-H, with lambs being her favorite project. She graduated from Brewster High School in 1965 and attended college in Worthington and Marshall, MN. Most of her life was spent working in the food service industry.

Mary married David Duis in 1972, and their son Christopher was born in 1977. Mary later married Eldon Poller in 1990 and they lived in Iowa for 23 years. In 2013, she returned to Brewster and lived in her mother’s home until her death on October 8, 2021.

Mary enjoyed traveling on many scenic bus trips throughout the country. She liked to fish, grow flowers and vegetables, preserve canned goods, visit the farm, and go on road trips with her nieces. She was a lover of animals and was always concerned about their environment and well-being. She loved her step-granddaughters and had many fun times with them as they grew up.

Mary is survived by her son, Christopher Duis; one sister, Cindy Brunk; five brothers and their wives, Gene and Cathy Brunk, Bill and Jennifer Brunk, Jim and Tonia Brunk, John and Deb Brunk, and Roger and Shelly Brunk, and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Zane and Ruth Brunk, and her nieces, Connie, Tina, Madison, and Annie.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, MN, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery Fund or the World Wild Life Association.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
