Donna Marie Lee, age 84, was born on June 4, 1935 in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Orvin and Hilda (Meier) Peterson. She grew up in Worthington and was confirmed at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Donna attended Worthington schools until her family moved to Luverne, MN, where she worked in her parents’ café. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1953. Donna married Lester Lee on September 9, 1956, in Worthington at St. Matthew Lutheran Church. From 1956-1962, they moved from Luverne, to Sioux City, IA, Pocahontas, IA, Pierre, SD, and then back to Luverne. In 1972, they moved to Worthington and Donna worked at Gordy’s/County Market for 30 years. She then worked as a cook at the Meadows until her retirement. Along with attending church and bible study, she was a member of St. Matthew’s Altar Guild. Donna’s hobbies included quilting, sewing, canning pickles, cooking, and giving her baked goods away. Her cinnamon rolls and buns were her family’s favorites. Donna also enjoyed watching sports on TV. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden Gophers, Vikings, and the Twins were her favorite teams. Donna passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2020, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN.
Donna is survived by her four children, Jeffrey (Gail) Lee of Brainerd, MN, Steve (Tess) Lee of Pierre, SD, Pam Gordon of Sioux Falls, SD, and Scott (Stacy) Lee of Worthington, MN; grandchildren, Jessica Buzay, Cori Lee, Brian (Stephanie) Lee, Sarah (Peter) Rinderknecht, Jenny Lee, Stacy Lee, Josh Lee, Grace Ahles, Nathan Gordon, Derek (fiancée Becca) Lee, and Ryan Lee; fourteen great grandchildren, and brother, Doug (Donna) Peterson of Austin, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Lee; parents, Orvin and Hilda Peterson; sister, Betty (Peterson) Dirks and brother-in-law, John Dirks, and sister-in-law, Linda (Young) Peterson.
Private family services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2020, at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, MN. Casket bearers will be Brian Lee, Josh Lee, Derek Lee, Ryan Lee, Nathan Gordon, and Peter Rinderknecht.
