Leslie John Starner was born 10 July, 1941 in Worthington, MN to Lyle and Emily Starner of Brewster, MN. He was raised on the family farm and graduated class of ‘59 from Brewster High School. Before graduating he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for six years. While stationed in Germany he met his wife Edith and they were married for over fifty years. After his service with the army he returned to the family farm all while working full time at the Worthington Ford Dealership as a mechanic. After twenty years at the Ford garage he quit in 1982 to take over the farming operations after his dad retired. Then in 1991 he worked at Western Implement until their closing of the business in 2006 which then he retired. Les passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Les is survived by his son, John Starner (Aleta) and children, Elizabeth, Maria Olsen (Taylor), and Dillon and his daughter, Anita Zahorsky and children, Mara Anfinson (Nate) and Mitchell Zahorsky. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; his parents, Lyle and Emily, and son-in-law, Scott Zahorsky.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020, at 10:30 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Hersey Cemetery near Brewster, MN.
