Barbara Jean Baumgard, age 85, of Brewster, MN passed away January 23, 2021 at Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN. She was born February 14, 1935 in Yancey, KY to Willard and Martha Mason. At age four, she moved with her family to Midland, PA and then to Knoxville, TN in 1947. She graduated from East High School in 1953 and worked two years for Chapman Pharmaceutical Co. in Knoxville.
Barbara married Wesley Baumgard March 29, 1955 in Knoxville where he was stationed with the Air Force. They moved to Arlington, VA in April 1955 where Wesley finished his four-year enlistment and Barbara worked for the Navy Department in the Pentagon for two years. They then moved to Brewster, Wesley’s home, in February 1957 where they settled on a farm. After Wesley’s death in September 2000, Barbara remained on the farm until October 2004 when she moved to Worthington.
Barbara was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster for 63 years where she participated in its Ladies Aid and taught Release Time classes for many years. She also volunteered at the Brewster School and was a member of the Brewster American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member and volunteer for the Worthington Regional Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. Her interests included getting together with friends for lunch, having coffee in Brewster, reading a good romance novel, watching her favorite TV shows, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending their events.
Barbara is survived by her five children: Debra Baumgard of Lakewood, CO; Steven Baumgard of Luverne, MN; David Baumgard of Mahtomedi, MN; Keith Baumgard of Minneota, MN; and Craig (Tricia) Baumgard of North Mankato, MN; seven grandchildren: Linda Burg, Tom Burg, Kyle (Corey) Aanenson, Sean and Colin Baumgard, and Sierra and Bria Baumgard; six great-grandchildren: Monique, Landon, and Maiah Aanenson and Elijah, Matilda, and Charlotte Burg; brother-in-law Charles Armstrong of Memphis, TN, niece Denise (Scot) Cherry of Memphis, TN, and nephew Chuck (Laura) Armstrong of Biloxi, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley, and sister Helen Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Brewster, MN, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster, MN.
