William Herbert Manitz, age 90, was born on May 8, 1931, in Round Lake, MN, the son of Charles and Ella (Wiese) Manitz. He grew up and attended Round Lake schools. William served for two years in the National Guard prior to serving in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict.
William married the love of his life, Doris Ann Mohni on January 25, 1953. He worked for many years for the Campbell Soup Company, then with Bendix Company and finished his career at the Sather Cookie Company, retiring in 1994.
He and Doris raised six children, Dana (Steve) Carlberg of North Mankato, Greg (Rhonda) of Edgerton, MN, Dee (Boyd) Funk of Commerce City, CO, Jody Manitz (Jeff Livingston) of Round Lake, Scott (Michele) of Eden Prairie, MN and Jay (Deb) of Mantorville, MN.
Bill was a very active member of the American Legion in Round Lake for nearly 68 years. He was active in the First Presbyterian Church in Round and had his own pew. Bill enjoyed summers at the lake with Doris for years. He also enjoyed carpentry and built his own family home. He loved helping his kids with all their remodeling projects. He was a man of very few words but was full of one-liners. Bill passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at his residence in Round Lake, MN.
Bill is survived by his children; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and one sister. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; great granddaughter and 10 siblings.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 26, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Round Lake, MN, with Pastor Robert Bartlett officiating. Burial will be held in the Round Lake Cemetery.
