Willis Buell Adolph

Willis Buell Adolph, age 88, was born on October 8, 1934, on the family farm north of Worthington, MN, the son of Buell and Ethelyn (Strom) Adolph. He attended Elk Center country school and graduated from Worthington High School. Willis married Marvella Johnson on January 23, 1956, in Reading, MN. He worked for the Minnesota State Highway Department. Willis served in the United States Army from 1957 – 1959. After returning from the military, Willis and Marvella farmed in the Worthington area from 1959 until their retirement. He served as an Elk Township Supervisor for 27 years, was on the Reading Community Center Board and was a USDA Inspector at Campbell Soup Company. In 2003, they moved to Worthington where Willis volunteered locally in the Worthington community. Together they were active members of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Reading, MN, serving as trustee, elder, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, served on other various committees, and active with the Gideons, sharing God’s word. They relied on Christ’s guidance throughout their lives. Willis’ passion was farming and taking care of the animals on the family farm. He also enjoyed helping Marvella in their many gardens; he also had a small group of fruit trees, especially apples that he made apple cider from. Willis enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others at the fair where he was the Horticulture Supervisor for many years. In January of 2022, Willis entered Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda and was loved and well cared for during his time there. Willis went to his eternal home on his birthday of 88 years on October 8, 2022.

Willis is survived by his wife, Marvella of Worthington, MN; son, Kevin (Sherrie) Adolph of Rushmore, MN; two grandchildren, Anthony (Heidi) Adolph of Horace, ND and Samantha Scholten of Brandon, SD; five great-grandchildren, Montana, Isabel, Bentley, Abel, and Beau; sister, Carol Hanna; sister-in-law, Janet Adolph, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Kim Alan Adolph; brothers, Lyle & Myrtle Adolph, Alfred & Dorothy Adolph, and Myron Adolph, and brother-in-law, Terry Hanna.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Reading, MN, with Pastor Del Bolluyt officiating. Casket bearers will be Dean Adolph, Eldon Adolph, Keith Kruse, Steffen Van Westen, Dale Hanson, and Jeff Funk. Honorary bearers will be Gale Adolph, David Adolph, and Brian Kruse. Burial will be in the Summit Lake Cemetery near Reading, MN.

Willis and Marvella’s family would like to thank you for the support and prayers in their time of grief. Our hope and strength is in Christ alone and we celebrate his victory over death and the grave!
