Rita M. Turbes

Rita M. Turbes of Worthington, MN passed away on November 19, 2021 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD after a valiant struggle for a series of health issues in 2021.

Rita was born on January 28, 1943 to John and Helen Riley and lived in Wanda, MN until she was united into marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gerald J. Turbes, on August 12, 1961 at St. Mathias Church in Wanda, MN. Rita and Gerry were blessed with five sons who have loved and respected her even though she sometimes threatened to use and sometimes used the wooden spoon to help enforce life’s lessons. Her husband always said that he wasn’t worried if something happened to him, he knew her sons would take care of her.

Rita is survived by her husband, Gerry, her five sons and their wives Gerry and Bessy, Dale and Barb, Joe and Lisa, Mike and Tressa and Perry and Amanda, seventeen grand children and their significant others, Alisha and Chad, Kristin and Joel, Kelli and Drew, April and Andrew, Paige and Clint, Andrea and Lance, Trevor, Nikki and Jeremy, Michael, Bethany and Dylan, Caleb and Courtney, Mason and Camille, Anna, Sean, Marshall, Dylan and Daphne, twenty great grandchildren, Mason, Taylor, Alyvia, Avalynn, Jayden, Tucker, Kaden, Cooper, Aaliyah, Laylah, Hunter, Ariella, Lydia, Savannah, Avery, Trayson, Riley, Autumn, Asher and Noah.

She is also survived by her sister and brother in law, Tom and Judy Walter, two sister-in laws, Judy Riley and Beatrice Riley, her husband’s brother and spouse, Robert and Carol Turbes, her husband’s two sisters and their spouses, Joleen and Gary Teick, Mary and Jerome Moldan and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters and her great grandchild, Amaiyah.

Her family was her life. As a young mother her focus was on her boys. She never missed countless PeeWee and Little League baseball games or any other activities that her children participated in. She loved to attend her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. She became a Viking fan even though she did not understand football. She was always ready to attend Viking games. Sometimes when her teams did not perform the way she thought they should, including her sons little league games, she was known to use some colorful language. The Irish came out, but she had a big forgiving heart and loved her family and friends.

Rita worked as a teacher’s aide at St. Mary’s where all the kids loved Mrs. Turbes. They told her sons how lucky they were to have her as their Mom. Later, when all the kids were out of the house, she worked for several years during tax season at her husband’s accounting firm. Rita loved spending time with her husband during tax season.

She also loved to play cards and was in several card groups over the years. Rita’s games were buck euchre (dirty buck), 500 and with her latest card group Pfeiffer.
