Wayne Leonard Mohns, age 95, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Colonial Manor in Lakefield, MN. He was born July 6, 1926 in Estherville, IA to Emil and Gladys (Stearns) Mohns. He and his parents lived in Round Lake for 3 years, then moved to the farm, NE Round Lake Township. He attended a one room country school, then graduated in 1944 from Sioux Valley High School.

Wayne married Mina Smith December 18, 1949. After their marriage they made their first home on a farm in NE Round Lake Township, then moving to the Mohns family farm in 1953, and living there until they retired in 2010, then moving to Jackson, MN.

He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Worthington for 50 years serving as an elder and usher of that church, later transferring to Bethel Lutheran Church of Round Lake, MN.

He was engaged in farming all of his life, first with his father, Emil, then with his son, Brad, and his grandson, Chad, until retiring. Since farming was a strong love of his life, he remained active in the field work and also worked at HitchDoc. No one could polish a hitch like Wayne, and he was very meticulous in all that he did.

In 1985, he went back to school and took a course for Apartment Management and Maintenance and received a boilers license.

Among his many interests, he especially enjoyed being around his family, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren. He enjoyed watching them grow, and always showed an interest in each of their active lives. He tried to keep up with grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren and the activities they were all involved in. He loved telling old stories from his childhood to present, and did not tell many twice and always had their attention. He enjoyed woodworking, talking about flying, and square danced weekly with Mina. He enjoyed conversation with everyone, and had a good sense of humor.

In his later years, he was able to enjoy several one day HitchDoc plane trips with Brad, commenting on how many states he saw from above, where they had been, and how quickly they returned home, of course, asking all kinds of navigation questions.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Linda (Al) Ling, Round Lake, MN & their children Jason, Shauna, Kristopher and Amber, son, Brad (Linda) Mohns, Jackson, MN & their children Chad, Stacy, and Tasha, daughter, Robin (Steve) Farley, Brandon, SD & their children Cassidy, Kelley, and Katie, daughter, Kim (Bill) Good of Miami, OK & their children Karissa and Kelsey, 42 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Mina.

Private family services were held at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Steve DeKok officiating. Burial was in the Round Lake Cemetery.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington was in charge of the arrangements.
