March is upon our doorstep and state tournament time is here.
So is the return of March winter snow, slippery road and winds or ice, sleet and rain, depending upon which side of the storm line you may be living on.
Today's weather system likely is the strongest storm yet of this winter season. It may, in fact, bring snow emergencies for the first time this season in some cities. It has also brought slippery, icy roads.
This storm Tuesday night and today has ended the storm drought of our current mild winter.
However, it will not end the moisture drought that is impacting most of the state. The National Weather Service says more than 96 percent of the state currently faces moderate to severe drought conditions.

Much of the moisture -- snow, sleet or rain -- we receive through today will not easily soak into the frozen ground.
In light of our drought conditions, state officials are urging Minnesota farmers to review their crop insurance plans for the coming year. Farmers have to finalize their plan for crop insurance by March 15.
In the meantime, enjoy the white snowfall we have or may receive today. It will likely melt over the next week.
