WORTHINGTON -- The mission of the District 518 Induction Program is to facilitate the growth of probationary teachers through partnerships that encourage reflective process, build instructional repertoire and maximize student performance.
In order to address this goal, 17 new teachers were welcomed into our school family during a four-day orientation at the beginning of August. During that time, they engaged in activities that familiarized them with the district, prepared them for the first week of school, and connected them to systems of support and collegiality.
Whether it was hearing District 518's story, attending various technology trainings, getting trained for the Responsive Classroom or learning new classroom management strategies, these men and women were being prepared for success as they began their educational journey with us.
In addition, each new teacher was matched with a trained mentor who will support, guide and coach them throughout the school year. By meeting on a monthly basis, our new faculty members will share, learn and discuss professional development topics such as establishing professional practice, creating an engaging learning environment, implementing effective instructional strategies, impacting student learning through quality teaching and celebrating best practices. It is our hope that by fostering these positive relationships and promoting the well-being of our new teachers, together we will meet the diverse needs of our learners.
It will, indeed, be another remarkable year in the Worthington public school district.
