WORTHINGTON — A quick visit to any major department store will let you know that the back-to-school season has arrived. The summer season flew past, with only the month of August remaining before students are expected back in their desks, prepared to learn. Throughout the summer, however, the schools have been preparing so that they can provide an excellent environment for that learning.

Custodial crews across all of ISD 518’s facilities have been hard at work this summer wrapping up from the 2018-2019 school year and summer school and preparing for the upcoming school year. Waxing floors, cleaning carpets, making repairs and preparing furniture are just some of the varied tasks that the dedicated crews have been tackling this summer. All of this in between the usual jobs of maintenance (both inside and on the beautifully kept grounds) and responding to events such as the windstorm the area suffered last week.

ISD 518 would like to extend a thank you to the crews in all facilities that have done and continue to do amazing work to maintain our buildings and grounds, creating a space for our students that is conducive to learning. Without these valued members of our staff, the excellence in learning that is delivered by ISD 518 would not be possible. Thank you!

ISD 518 staff are not the only ones who are making plans for getting back to school; students and families are beginning to prepare as well. Supply lists for Prairie Elementary and Worthington Middle School have been released by the district. Please visit www.isd518.net/school-supplies to see what is needed for students in the 2019-2020 school year. There you can view what is recommended for students in each grade level in those two facilities.

Along with being prepared with the correct supplies, it is also important to be prepared with the necessary information. All ISD 518 facilities will be hosting back-to-school events in which students may meet with teachers, be given their technology (iPads), have their school pictures taken, be assigned their locker and receive their busing information. These nights are incredibly important for students in all grades and their families. ISD 518 recommends attendance by all district families.

Worthington High School will be holding their back to school day on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Worthington Middle School will be holding their back-to-school day on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Area Learning Center will be holding their back to school day on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Prairie Elementary will be having conferences on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Aug. 30 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

ISD 518 looks forward to another excellent school year and is excited to welcome back all of our students. We are also excited to meet the new students who have registered over the summer months as our enrollment continues to grow. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and we will see you in August for back-to-school days!
