WORTHINGTON — Before ISD 518 student athletes get a chance to don their jerseys and break a sweat, there are some crucial steps that need to be completed. The first step of this process is taking place on Tuesday, Aug. 6, when the seventh- through 12th-grade all-sport eligibility and coaches meeting is being held at the Worthington High School. Attendance to this meeting is required for any grade 7-12 ISD 518 student athlete planning on participating in the athletic program.
The general meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in the Worthington High School gymnasium. This meeting will cover many crucial topics pertaining to the athletics program including expectations and eligibility guidelines. The Minnesota State High School League requires schools to collect all forms and fees before participants are allowed to practice or participate in events. This all-sports meeting is meant to get ahead of any issues that may arise as various athletic seasons begin throughout the year.
After the general meeting, fall sports coaches will be holding their individual team meetings. Teams will meet with their respective coaches and discuss team specific information. In addition to the main meeting and fall coaches meetings, several other important stops will be available to assist in the preparation process.
Sports physicals will be available for student athletes for the low cost of $25. These full sports physicals are being offered by Sanford starting at 4:45 p.m. Aug. 6. This is a great opportunity to get an affordable physical exam in preparation for the upcoming year of Trojan athletics. Thank you to Sanford for offering this service throughout the evening.
ImPact (Concussion) Testing is a critical way the Trojan athletics program works to protect students and helps to diagnose concussions in athletes. The ImPact testing is required for all ninth- and 11th-grade students. There are designated times for this testing to take place depending on which sport student athletes are participating in. At 5:30 p.m. testing will take place for volleyball, girls’ tennis, and girls’ soccer. At 7 p.m., testing will take place for winter and spring sports. At 7:30 p.m. testing will take place for football, boys; soccer, and cross country. If you are required to perform the ImPact (Concussion) Testing, please attend the session corresponding to your sport.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Trojan Sports Booster Club will be serving hamburgers, chips and a drink for $5 in the Worthington High School lobby. Additional hamburgers are available for $2 each. This is an annual fundraiser for the sports programs as well as a great place to catch dinner as student athletes complete the prerequisites for participating in the Trojan Athletics program. All proceeds from this fundraiser go back into the seventh- through 12th-grade sports programs. Please consider supporting the Trojan Sports Booster Club on Aug. 6 by purchasing a burger, chips and a drink!
ISD is looking forward to the upcoming 2019-2020 year in academics and athletics. Please attend the Aug. 6 all-sports eligibility meeting if you are planning on participating in the Trojan Athletics program. Preparation is the first step on the road to excellence. Go Trojans!
