This year has been a test of many traditions, including those held by the students and staff at ISD 518. While many things may look different, one tradition District 518 will be keeping alive is honoring veterans on Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day.
In years past, ISD 518 schools have hosted programs inviting community members to attend and join us in thanking the veterans from our community. This year, a video is being produced with the help of staff and students from across the district. This video will be available for viewing on Channel 3, the ISD 518 and Channel 3 websites, as well as ISD 518 social media. There are scheduled airings of the video on Channel 3 at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 as well as Thursday, Nov. 12.
Please join District 518 in thanking veterans on Nov. 11 by watching the video presentation featuring ISD 518 students and staff. This is one small way the district is choosing to carry on traditions that are important to students, staff and the community. While the opportunity for a large, in-person gathering is off the table for this year, a video presentation will carry on the yearly thanks District 518 gives to our country’s veterans.
Thank you to our community for understanding the many restrictions that come with all ISD 518 activities this year. We are working to provide as many opportunities as possible for our students, including as much in-person learning time as is deemed safe. It is our request that community members continue to respect and follow guidelines put forward by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control in helping to limit the spread of COVID-19.
By avoiding crowds, properly wearing masks (covering both the mouth and the nose), regularly washing hands, keeping six feet of distance between yourself and others, and staying home when you do not feel well, we can all work together to putting our community back on track to resuming in-person learning at ISD 518 as well as enabling as many opportunities for our students as possible.
District 518 would like to thank all veterans for their countless sacrifices made to defend our country. Thank you for all that you have done to allow our students to safely study and work toward excellence in education. On Nov. 11, please remember to reach out, make your voice heard and thank the great veterans of our nation’s armed forces.
Parker Sandhurst is District 518's communications coordinator.
