The American Red Cross is urging people in Worthington and the surrounding area to donate blood this summer. It’s all part of the organization’s “100 Days of Summer” campaign. It encourages people to give life to those in need. One person will need blood every three seconds this summer, and the Red Cross typically falls short on donations during the summer months.
Even if you’ve donated blood before, it’s important to understand the process:
* Hydrate: Drink plenty of fluids on the day of your donation.
* Wear comfortable clothing; your sleeves will be rolled up past your elbow.
* Eat foods full of iron.
* Bring a list of medications you’re currently taking.
* Bring your ID or donor card if you don’t have one.
Organizers say one pint of blood can save up to three lives. The number one reason people do not donate is they haven’t been asked. So, consider this your official invitation to give blood!
The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be from 1 to 7 p.m. July 10 at the American Reformed Church, 1720 Burlington Ave., Worthington.
Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
