Thank you for the heartwarming story about the fundraiser organized by the Worthington High School Business Professionals of America club. The organization raised and donated $1,050 to the city's animal pound. These entrepreneurs are to be congratulated for their business acumen and their concern for animals. I hope their efforts will inspire others to take action to help the city's cats and dogs.

There is a great need for an animal shelter in southwestern Minnesota. Too many beloved pets end up being neglected or abandoned. They need food, shelter, and humane care while they wait to be re-homed.

Most forward-thinking communities in Minnesota have an animal shelter or humane society. Some are operated in conjunction with local government, while others are run by a local non-profit with the help of civic groups. Veterinarians help to assure quality care and regulatory compliance.

A Worthington animal shelter, in a highly visible location, would encourage community involvement and volunteer work opportunities. Young people of all cultures would learn the proper and humane way to care for animals. Animal suffering would be reduced and lives would be saved.

Worthington needs a good animal shelter. What can you and your organization do to help?
