Republicans in recent years have definitely pushed harder for deregulation, but both parties of Congress are to blame for the recent fiasco. Democrats voted overwhelmingly for the bailout. How can you trust members of both parties who are serving on commerce committees and banking oversight committees and getting thousands of dollars in contributions from the companies that they are overseeing? Lobbying and contributions to congressman and senators are what needs to be regulated. We could start with a citizen watchdog committee that had the power to remove congressman from committees where there could be potential conflicts of interest due to stock holdings or contributions.
