Lies are the last refuge of a lost argument. It is telling that pundits who loudly proclaim the failure of President Obama’s economic policies tell and retell heaps of lies.
One of the most outrageous and oft repeated lies is that President Obama is responsible for an unprecedented growth in our national debt. It is a lie, and the people spreading it know it is a lie.
The facts are that President Obama has our nation on track to eliminate the deficit by 2017. This is in spite of the colossal deficit he inherited from George W. Bush. The 2008 budget plan responsible for creating a huge increase in our national debt was designed by the Bush administration and remained in place until President Obama’s first allowed budget proposal in 2010. And that’s when things started looking up.
President Obama, together with Democratic members of Congress, including our own Tim Walz, have made incredible strides in bringing the deficit back to manageable levels. Since President Obama took office the national deficit has been cut in half, and it is possible that it can be eliminated entirely within two years.
The Republicans, the self-called party of fiscal conservatives, abetted the Bush administration in squandering our national treasury. Those same Republicans, with help from their Tea Party radical friends, attempted to block the president’s budgets at every turn. In spite of that, President Obama worked diligently to restore our economy and our nation’s financial future. I am proud of his success and grateful for his work.
