It is very unfortunate that as of this Saturday, the citizens of the Worthington community will have to say our good byes to a great store that has been here for several years. This store may have had its ups and downs as far as sales go over the years, but what business doesn’t.
For those that have only heard rumors as to why Dollar Tree is really closing, it certainly was not due their corporation closing it because of sales. As a matter of fact, Worthington’s store had been rated one of the top stores in sales as of late.
It is my understanding that the new sporting goods store will be moving into this location because they were able to offer renting the space for three times the amount of money. Yes, I guess it’s very true that “money talks” far above longevity in this case. Speaking of longevity, Worthington’s Dollar Tree has been at this location since the opening of the strip mall.
How many of the people reading this have seriously responded to the survey that they have received on their receipts from our soon-to-be-missing Dollar Tree? It’s so unfortunate that a store such as this needs to feel they are being shoved out the door - especially when it was helping to meet the needs of lower-income families in our community, let alone those that like a fun place to shop for interesting items that are constantly changing. Not only was this store an asset to individuals, but it was also an asset to many local businesses in the area who could make purchases there at very reasonable prices.
Those that want to “Shop Worthington” at a store where everything is $1 or less will now have to drive out of town to do so. Our only prayer here is that the Dollar Tree Corporation will know that they would be welcomed back to Worthington at any time. There is hope of this happening, so Worthington, keep praying!
Best of luck to all of the employees that will now have to look for jobs somewhere else. This is being written on behalf of all of those that will certainly miss Dollar Tree.
