I do not know which month of the year Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and Nancy Pelosi have seen potatoes growing where previously ice had covered the ground in Greenland, but the same could be said of Minnesota and Iowa.
The past few months have not been too good for growing vegetables in this area, but I am sure many will be grown in a couple of months. Any encyclopedia will tell you that many hardy vegetables are grown in Greenland during the spring and summer, as the hours of sunlight are many during the summer. This will probably continue as it has for many years.
There have also been many drillings made through the ice cap, but they do not make much of that information available to the public except to say that they were surprised as to what was out about past climate in that area. I have not researched that information so cannot say too much about it.
I must have missed Roger Elgersma's letter, so I cannot say much about it. I can tell you from being stationed in Greenland for a full year and making a couple of trips to Greenland that there were many vegetables grown there during the Cold War with Russia during the early '50s, at least 55 years ago. I can also tell you that icebergs were floating down the rivers even then, and I went fishing for rock cod around many of them and had to watch it as to not get my line snagged on one of them.
There are many doomsday people around; there has been in the past and will be in the future. I can remember my sister-in-law telling us about 40 years ago that by the year 2000, there would be mass starvation in the United States because we would not be able to raise enough food for ourselves. She was told this by some highly educated college professor and actually believed it. I am not going to say that some of these bad things will not come true, but so many of them are only political ploys or "I'm important, pay attention to me."

We must remember that most of the records that have been kept in regard to these problems are of a very short period of time when compared to the age of the earth. I could also tell about other things that happened in Greenland, but I am sure that if the government picked up on them, I would be called a liar or punished in some way.
