Korea, “the forgotten war,” now has forgotten veterans, also.
The Australian government noted that their Korean vets were suffering from various medical problems at a greater rate than the general public and conducted a study in 1997 called “Korean War Veterans Mortality Study.” The study found that, among other things, prostrate cancer was up to a 23 percent higher incidence than the general public.
The government went ahead and compensated veterans who were age 70 in 2003. The Canadian government did the same for their veterans.
Our government has not looked at the situation and won’t use the same study from another country - they would have to do their own. By then, all the Korean vets should be dead.
Happy 60th anniversary of the war. What a country we fight for.
