By Sherry Benton, K-Kids Advisor, Early Risers Kiwanis
Our Prairie Elementary students and advisors for K-Kids are an outstanding representation of the quality of education that the kids are receiving.
We just came from the officer election and the kids had an experience of preparing for their run for office with platforms, campaign posters and voting. This was an experience that I wish all could have witnessed, as they were respectful of each other and presenting themselves with a dignity of representing themselves as a quality person to receive the votes to put them into office. Our Early Risers Kiwanis have been fortunate to have faculty advisors every year that we have sponsored and supported with the K-Kids through our Kiwanis Club.
Also, we have had community support for K-Kids as part of our club. We enjoyed the Peanut Day on Oct. 6, where the K-Kids and Early Risers Kiwanis members had four locations where we were set up with posters and K-Kids to help with funds to continue our youth projects. The kids learned to inform the people about the activities and goals of Kiwanis K-Kids.
We want them to be community supporters, have respect for their teachers and become involved with parliamentary procedures to become leaders in their classes as they go to the middle school.
They help with the Veterans Day Breakfast and bring in items for the Manna Food Pantry and support the school project of Pennies for Patients, which provides funds locally for families affected with cancer. They lead the meetings and decide when and where they can represent the K-Kids with their involvement.
Our appreciation to all the community for supporting our K-Kids and to the administration at Prairie Elementary for their support to help provide the kids with awesome advisors.
