On Nov. 4, the citizens of Worthington will be asked to vote on the one-half percent sales tax. Being a motel operator, I can see the benefits of the sales tax. When we hear the word tax, many of us are immediately against the idea without hearing the benefits of the projects and how the dollars are going to be spent. I have lost count on the number of times that the people have called our property to book rooms, and need a large facility. Regretfully, I have to inform them that we do not have such a meeting/banquet facility that could accommodate four to five hundred individuals. Because of not having a facility of this nature, we have lost business, not just motels, but, restaurants, gas stations and other businesses.
With the support of the sales tax, Memorial Auditorium will also benefit greatly from this. Isn't it wonderful that we have a performing arts center right here in Worthington? The improvements for heating and cooling, restroom facilities and increase lobby area will be a definite improvement.
When we shop in Sioux Falls, Mankato or Albert Lea, we think nothing of paying their tax, but, we are not willing to do it for our city? Did you even notice that you paid an extra tax?
Move our community forward and vote yes on Nov. 4.
