Working together is the key to solving our current political crisis.
In an article in the Daily Globe on Wednesday, it was reported that Rep. Tim Walz of the First District ranked fourth on a bipartisan index released by Lugar Center of Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy.
I applaud Rep. Walz for being willing to sponsor bills that can gain support from members across the aisle. In a time where political polarization is threatening to ruin our American experiment, it is necessary that we work together. I agree that there are topics that are non-negotiable for both parties, but those should not keep us from building relationships with people from the opposite side of the spectrum.
The problem is friendship, and camaraderie. It is sad to see congress bickering and mudslinging through their time in office, leaving their constituents to fend for themselves. If our members of congress were willing to step outside of their ideological political box, maybe we could see more bipartisanship - and more things getting done.
