While there are doomsday people around, there are also those who are so blindly positive that they do not see reality. When Stephanie Herseth Sandlin told me that they are planting potatoes in Greenland where they did not before, she was not talking about a seasonal thing. Leon Kruger not only did not read my previous letter, but did not hear my conversation with Stephanie, either. She also told me that the young people in Greenland like the situation since they also have much more open fishing water. It is the elders that are concerned since they see too fast a change as a big risk.
Even though I do not think the earth will have a catastrophe soon, I do believe in personal responsibility for our excessive use of natural resources and pollution. The Congress, the Nobel Peace Prize committee, world leaders at Tokyo and recently the Southern Baptist Convention have all realized that we must be responsible for our actions when it comes to global warming.
When God put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, their main purpose was to tend the garden. Secondarily, they could eat most anything they wanted. Some still think consumption is our priority. Since we grew up in possibly the most materialistic country the world has ever known, we must realize that our environment may have affected our opinion. Step back and look at yourself rather than just assuming that anyone who is not as positive as you is just wrong.
