The best time to plant an oak tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is this coming spring! This new tree scape in our community will provide a place to stroll, for kids to run and climb, a place to sit and think. It will be a place of comfort and shade for a dozen generations. Burr oak trees symbolize strength and endurance.
Consider being a part of the Silent Oak Society. We intend to plant an oak forest — a silent oak forest. A tree can represent your gift of gratitude or appreciation. You can memorialize a loved one. By planting a tree this coming spring, your quiet remembrance will be around for 200 to 500 years.
The burr oak trees we are planting will be approximately 10 feet tall and 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Within a generation they could easily be three or four feet in diameter — 50 feet tall and have a 60-foot canopy.
Consider being a part of the Silent Oak Society, There are no meetings, no newsletters, no annual dues. We are excited to be working with the city of Worthington and the city forester. We are taking contributions for trees to be planted this spring; the cost is $350. Call (507) 360-2670 for forest location and details. .
P.S. Consider telling a story about the Silent Oak Tree you have already planted. Consider creating a neighborhood effort to help plant a tree or assist in the community forest.
