My name is Nataly Najera Murillo and I am Worthington’s 2022-2023 Worthington-Crailsheim exchange student. Another month has passed and the holiday season is coming closer. As always, a lot has happened so let’s start.
I just moved in with my new host family, the Loresches in Honhardt, which is about 13 minutes away from Crailsheim. They are a very nice and welcoming family and I am very happy to be staying with them.
Since the holiday season is coming up, I’ve been doing a lot of baking with my last host family and friends. I got to bake my first German Christmas cookies called Lebkuchen and Vanillekipferl. I also got to bake my first Black Forest Cake, which is a famous cake in the south of Germany. Besides all of the sweet baking, I’ve also helped out to cook some things like Rouladen with Spätzle.
I’ve also been to a lot of new places. I visited Aalen with a friend and the town was very nice! I also took a trip to Ludwigsburg, which was just beautiful. In Ludwigsburg, there was a really cool pumpkin exhibition with special lights later at night. There was also a breathtaking castle with lights later on in the night. I also took a tour in Crailsheim and visited four companies to learn about what they do and how their company works.
I have joined some after school activities. I signed up for a dance course, which is pretty cool because it’s something I definitely wouldn’t do in Worthington but it’s a new experience! I also do volleyball now every Wednesday, which is really nice and I enjoy it!

I also got to visit the thing I’ve been waiting for the most: Weihnachtsmarkt, also known as a Christmas market! I was really excited when I got to go to one and I think it’s the best thing to do during Christmas time! There are so many things to buy such as Christmas cookies, bratwurst, and a drink that’s similar to hot punch. I’d definitely say I’m not a huge fan of the hot punch.
Overall Christmas markets are probably my favorite things during the holiday season in Germany!
Everything is going really great for me in Germany! I’m really excited for Christmas time even though I have to face the sad reality that I will be getting no snow. I’m grateful for everyone’s support! Thank you to everyone that’s been supporting me and this amazing program!
Sincerely,
Nataly Najera Murillo
