Sonny Gray let himself feel the full range of emotions on Monday. He let those emotions fuel him and then funneled them into one of his best starts of the season. And afterwards, he had a long embrace in the first base dugout with pitching coach Wes Johnson, a man whom he has become close to over the course of the past few months.

A day after news broke that Johnson would be leaving to take the pitching coach job at Louisiana State University, Gray went out and pitched the Twins to an 11-1 win with seven scoreless innings against the Guardians at Progressive Field on Monday night.

Golfers around the region battled the conditions for the 59th Red River Amateur Championship. After three days of competition, It was a fight till the 18th hole in both the mens and women's division.

In the women's division, it was a three way tie between NDSU's Leah Skaar, Emily Isrealson and Becca Tschertter heading into the final hole. Skaar was able to finish the job shooting par becoming the first woman to win the tournament.

When the heat of the summer rises, Fargo Post 2 usually does as well.

Post 2 has won 16 of its first 18 games to begin 2022, scoring five or more runs in 14 of those games.

Most high school kids are getting to go on vacation when the summer arrives. For Legion baseball players like those with Post 2, getting on the field is their vacation.

NDSU Football's 2023 recruiting class is rapidly rising as the Bison picked up two new commits on Wednesday.

The day started with Jailen Duffie's commitment, a cornerback out of Illinois.

The cornerback had offers from 19 division one programs, including FBS and the top schools in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

Bismarck native and former NDSU quarterback Carson Wentz returned to Fargo Tuesday along with some of the most recognizable names in Bison football for the third-annual AO1 Foundation charity softball game at Newman Outdoor Field

Festivities included a home run derby, and the main event: a nine-inning softball game that pitted team offense against team defense, all to benefit the various ministries of Wentz's foundation.

Shelby Frank is no stranger to making history.

"We know what I was able to do and I know that I wasn't gonna settle for anything less than what I was capable of.

“The discus has always been my baby.”

Beginning in 8th grade, Frank won four consecutive state titles in the discus at Red River High School. Frank's success at the high school level landed her in the Big 10 at the University of Minnesota.

Detroit Lakes (Minn.) High School rising junior Mason Carrier got his dream NCAA Division I college football offer in early June and it didn’t take long for him to make his decision.

Carrier verbally committed to the Minnesota Gophers on Sunday, June 19, he announced via Twitter. His older brother, Ethan Carrier, a rising senior, also committed to the Gophers on Sunday.

The top North Dakota high school seniors gathered at Mayville State preparing for one more football game.

For one coach and player, it's their last chance to be on the field together.

"It hasn’t really hit me yet and it probably won’t hit me until its over," said former Sheyenne Mustang Zander Newton.

New York Mills’ Bode Roberts had himself a seventh inning in the state Class A third-place game.

Tied 8-8, Roberts threw out a runner at second base on a steal attempt to end the inning. About 10 minutes later, he sent the New York Mills faithful home with a third-place plaque on a walk-off single.

Third-seeded New York Mills beat fourth-seeded Sacred Heart 9-8 despite falling behind 5-0 in the first inning. Ethan Arnston got the first two runs across with a single before Isaac Zavoral lofted a two-run double to center field.

Moorhead Spuds knocked out of contention in state boys lacrosse quarterfinals

Moorhead was well aware its margin for error was razor-thin against top-seed Benilde-St. Margaret’s in the Minnesota state boys lacrosse quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The defending state champion Red Knights entered with a 16-0 record, averaging almost 15 goals per game. It’s pretty much the same outfit that soundly defeated the Spuds in last year’s quarterfinals.

It didn’t take long for Moorhead to learn that there are, indeed, margins thinner than a razor.
