HERON LAKE -- Alex Leopold delivered an RBI single for Heron Lake in the bottom of the fifth and pitched two scoreless innings, but the Lakers had only seven base runners during a five-inning game against the league-leading Cardinals.

After taking an early 4-0 lead, the Iowa-based team plated eight runs in the top of the fifth to end the game early via the 10-run rule.

Matt Franks drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the fifth and after Josh Olson (two walks) drew a two-out walk, Leopold drove in pinch-runner Octavio Jimenez with Heron Lake's only run.

Jerrad Meinders (second-inning single), Kirk McBreen (fourth-inning single) and Lucas Knutson (fifth-inning walk) were the only other Lakers to reach base, as Spencer (15-3) turned a pair of double plays and recorded a bases-loaded strikeout to prevent Heron Lake (7-12, 7-11) from mounting any rallies.

Franks, Leopold and Meinders shared the pitching duties for the Lakers, who open playoff action against Windom in Windom Saturday at 5 p.m.
