COON RAPIDS - A win Sunday put the Worthington 15-and-under boys soccer team within reach of a repeat.
Last year, many of the same players on the 2015 team were members of the 14-and-under team that took state. If Worthington F.C. is victorious tonight against Shakopee, they will again have a chance at capturing the crown.
Worthington put itself in that position with a 4-1 win over North Suburban on Sunday in Coon Rapids. The first two rounds of the tournament are round-robin between the three squads in Group B. The winner will play the champion of Group A in Saturday’s state final.
The locals held a 1-0 lead at halftime in its win Sunday. They turned up the pressure in the second half to put the game away.
Jon Keodouangsy tallied a hat-trick for Worthington F.C., scoring each of their first three goals. Edwin Hernandez added the exclamation point.
Worthington is back on the field at 7 p.m. tonight in Coon Rapids.
