SIBLEY, Iowa - Just four days after picking up its first win of the season in a walk-off thriller, Sibley-Ocheyedan suffered a setback Monday in a 15-2 run-rule loss to George-Little Rock.

Thursday, the Generals came out on top of a pitcher’s duel against Graettinger-Terrill/Ruthven-Ayshire. Jameson Cosgrove threw all seven innings and allowed just four hits while striking out five and walking one.

The score was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the seventh when Kyle Green led off with a bunt single. With the bases loaded and two outs, courtesy runner Colvin Jenness trotted home from third for the win on a G-T/R-A walk.

“It felt good,” Generals’ coach Marshall Doeden said. “We needed it.”

Unfortunately for S-O, that momentum didn’t carry over into Monday’s return to Siouxland Conference play. A dreadful fifth inning saw the Mustangs pull away after the Generals had led for most of the contest.

Cosgrove was back on the hill and gave his team four and one-third solid innings. But the Generals’ defense had a hard time making the routine plays in the fifth. Of the 10 runs allowed by Cosgrove, only one was earned.

Sibley-Ocheyedan took the early lead with a single run in the bottom of the first but G-LR tied things up with a run in the third. The Generals came back with one of their own to carry a 2-1 advantage into the fourth.

That’s when things began to unravel.

The Mustangs claimed the lead with a three-run fourth. That set the score at 4-2 going into the fifth, when G-LR put 11 runs on the board.

Cosgrove took the loss for S-O, allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out four and walking three. Brent Kingenberg picked up the win for the Mustangs.

Logan Heibult and Trent Kruger had a hit each for the Generals as Klingenberg held them to just two. Preston Marco added an RBI.
